Shimeles Hailu is the Managing Partner of the Office. Before founding HSP, he has worked at Tadesse Kiros Law Office, where he assisted a number of multinational corporations on various legal matters including mergers and acquisitions, banking and finance law, as well as mining and energy law.
Representative Legal Matters
Assisted a technology firm in Africa during its acquisition of a local Tech company, providing support on due diligence, company law, tax regulations, and contract law.
Advised a multinational oil & gas exploration company on matters related to termination of its Petroleum Production Sharing Agreement (PPSA) with the Ethiopian government and subsequent liquidation.
Advised a number of international and regional financial institutions on matters related to loan facilities, securitization, factoring and supply chain financing.
Assisted a contractor on incorporation and contract-related issues for its project in the energy sector in Ethiopia.
Advised a brewery company on tax matters related to an offshore share transaction
Acted for a prominent energy company in its bid for the first two PPP projects in Ethiopia.
Assisted an Ethiopian entrepreneur regarding a USD 36 million contractual dispute submitted to the International Commercial Court (ICC), and finally awarded to the client.
Successfully represented a local company in a high stake commercial dispute against the Ethiopian Sugar Corporation Group.
Acted for a domestic construction firm in its dispute against a government entity, with a claim worth around ETB 200 million.
